Co-ordinated by shipping and logistics company LAM France, in conjunction with the EC\u2019s Erasmus + programme, PraC-MARENG (Practical and Communication Based Maritime English project), was launched in France on 22 November 2019. A number of participants from local, national and international maritime authorities, organisations, professional bodies, policymakers, suppliers, maritime press and end-users joined the opening reception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms. Zeynep Aslan, from LAM France made an\nopening speech and led the schedule of the opening ceremony. Mr. Stephan\nSalvetat, general director of LAM France made a warm welcome speech. Mr.\nSlavetat, from LAM FRANCE (FR), Mr. Ugurcan Acar, from Maritime Innovators (TR),\nMr. Yal\u00e7\u0131n Kuz\u00f6ren, from Tuzla Governorship (TR), Mr. Tomaz Gregoric from\nSpinaker (Slovenia), Ms. Indr\u0117 Mickevi\u010di\u016bt\u0117 from Lithuanian Maritime Academy\n(Lithuania), Ms. Corina Varsami and Mr. Alexandru Micu from Constanta Maritime\nUniversity. Mr. Ugurcan Acar made an overview presentation about the\nbackground, aims and the outputs of the project. The opening ceremony ended\nwith an open-buffet to make networking and collaboration with the\nrepresentatives from maritime industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Partners continued the programme with\ninternal meeting on the first and second day of the meeting discussing the\ntasks covering for the first 6 months of the project. A visit to Marseille Port\nlater on was conducted by the partners and observations made for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project will aim to improve seafarers\u2019\nunderstanding of Maritime English, in order to reduce the number of onboard\naccidents caused by poor communication. Development of the e-learning course\nwill take two years with the effective training courses in Marseilles beginning\nin 2021.\n\nThe multi-nation programme is designed to\nenhance seafarers\u2019 understanding and practice of the English language as 40% of\naccidents are linked to inadequate understanding between seafarers on board the\nsame ship and unsatisfactory standards of communication between crews and land.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
